Suspect Arrested After Standoff in Springfield Assault Case
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A 54-year-old man, Linson Lavell Johnson, was arrested early on April 5, 2025, following a violent assault and hours-long standoff with police at a residence on S. 72nd Street.
The incident began late on April 4 when Springfield Police responded to reports of an armed man attacking a woman and a man inside the home around 9:48 p.m.
Police arrived to find one male victim outside the house, who was quickly aided and taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers then surrounded the residence and made contact with a female victim who exited the home. She reported being assaulted by an armed man she knew only as “Goldie,” later identified as Johnson.
The woman, who sustained significant head and facial injuries, said Johnson prevented her from leaving and remained inside. She was transported to McKenzie Willamette Hospital.
After confirming movement inside the house, police identified Johnson through interviews and records, discovering he had active warrants, including a felony parole violation, and a history of multiple felony convictions. Authorities also developed probable cause to arrest him for violent crimes related to the incident, noting he was likely armed with a handgun.
SPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators spent over five hours attempting to negotiate Johnson’s peaceful surrender, using loudspeakers and de-escalation tactics. After obtaining a search warrant, the SPD Drone team searched the home at 4:10 a.m. on April 5, followed by SWAT’s entry. At approximately 5:35 a.m., officers found Johnson hiding in a closet and took him into custody without further incident. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Johnson was booked into Lane County Jail on charges including assault, strangulation, coercion, menacing, kidnapping, and felon in possession of a firearm, in addition to his outstanding warrants. The investigation remains ongoing.
