  SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A 54-year-old man, Linson Lavell Johnson , was arrested early on April 5, 2025, following a violent assault and hours-long standoff with police at a residence on S. 72nd Street. The incident began late on April 4 when Springfield Police responded to reports of an armed man attacking a woman and a man inside the home around 9:48 p.m. Police arrived to find one male victim outside the house, who was quickly aided and taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers then surrounded the residence and made contact with a female victim who exited the home. She reported being assaulted by an armed man she knew only as “Goldie,” later identified as Johnson. The incident, reported at 7:43 p.m., left a 34-year-old Florida man injured after an altercation at the popular scenic spot located at 2 Skinner Butte Loop.   EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) crews rushed to 525 High Street in Eugene at 8:47 a.m. on Thursday following reports of a possible natural gas leak. Northwest Natural (NWN) confirmed a leak inside the multi-occupancy commercial building, prompting a robust response from ESF, including four engines, two trucks, two battalion chiefs, and an ambulance. Upon arrival, firefighters detected natural gas emanating from within the structure and immediately evacuated all six businesses housed in the building. Crews worked methodically, ventilating the premises business by business to clear the gas. Over the next 90 minutes, ESF collaborated with NWN and Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) to safely eliminate the remaining gas. The Eugene Police Department (EPD) assisted with traffic control during the operation.   LANE COUNTY, OR. -- On April 3, 2025, Darren Lee Woods , a 59-year-old man from Eugene, Oregon, was transferred to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility for intake following his sentencing in Lane County Circuit Court. Woods, convicted of Assault in the First Degree under case number 21CR19240, will serve a mandatory sentence under Oregon’s Measure 11, requiring him to complete every day of his term, minus time already served in county jail. His uncalculated release date is listed as September 28, 2032. Woods was also convicted of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
